What is Jesmonite?
Jesmonite is a composite material used for both the production of fine art sculpture and as a decorative surface for architectural and construction purposes. It is made from of a gypsum-based material in an acrylic resin.
Why does Marie Smith make Jesmonite sculpture?
By using Jesmonite in a silicone mould, the finest of details are replicated. It's strong, durable and can be coloured using pigments as well as recreating stone and metal effects. A water based, solvent free material, it is pleasant to use as well as being kinder to the environment.
All Jesmonite sculptures are also available in bronze.
