An annual event now and one I very much look forward to is my week in Paris creating figurative sculpture in clay at the Atelier Saint Fargeau.
I started attending life modelling sessions at Atelier Saint Fargeau when I lived in Paris and have been going back now for the past few years. It's a well equipped atelier in the 20th arrondissement of Paris that offers life drawing, painting and figurative sculpture / clay modelling classes, open studio sessions as well as weekend workshops.
During the school holidays, the French figurative sculptor Francine Auvrouin runs a 3-4 day open workshop. We work with a different life model each day. The morning starts when the model proposes three possible poses and we vote to choose. Over the next six hours we sculpt the figure in clay.
It is very important to my practice as a figurative sculptor to work directly with a life model. This is a great opportunity to catch up with friends and all things Parisian whilst sculpting my days away in the studio. Couldn't be happier!
