Myself and some Cavan artists were very lucky to have the opportunity to work with the artist Tom Meskell on The Making Sessions. These sessions were organised by Cavan Arts Office and took place over three, two hour sessions using Zoom. A new experience for all of us but we adjusted well.
Using Tom's technique, we constructed a sturdy wire frame head which had lights inserted to the inside of the framework and we then covered it with a special tissue paper and glue mix. These lanterns can be lit up and make for a wonderful night time display.
This technique is suited to large scale sculptures for parades or spectacles. It is hoped that our new skills will be applied to a Cavan community project later this year.
